Below are pages from The Stampers' Sampler, April/May 2004.
In honor of our Celebrations Extravaganza call for art, Susan Swenson of Mahomet, IL turned to a favorite paper item - the envelope! Using a small envelope as her pattern, Susan created a series of spectacular cards commemorating birthdays and anniversaries. She cleverly tucked in items needed to make each a happy occasion: stamped card, floral elements, and a gift. Whether tickets to the big game, a diamond tennis bracelet, or a dainty hanky, Susan has the event covered.
Honestly, we don't get many submissions from men at The Stampers' Sampler®. In fact, to be quite fair, it's downright seldom. That's why we were honored to receive Bob Pennycook's tulip series submitted for our hand-carved stamp challenge, Carve Your Own. Honored because the pieces represent the quieter sect of our readership, but also because of the obvious talent behind the carvings, layout, design, color palette and blending of mediums.
Sometimes subtle details make the biggest impact. Now you can custom blend your own stamp pads by slightly overlapping ink colors and swirling your own unique hues. Design original blends of color by combining bottles of Soft Shadow Colors by Hero Arts on Cut n' Dry felt by Ranger in your own combinations using two or three colors.
Kelly Burton has long been a contributor to The Stampers' Sampler®. Lately, you can find several cards created in her clean collage style in almost every issue. When Kelly submits art, Kelly submits art. Quantity follows quality in Kelly's work. She loves the challenges we offer in each issue of TSS and responds in spades. Working in a specific color palette, she plays around with each challenge we publish, creating several variations on a theme.
