Years ago when I changed my career from social work to art magazines, I didn't realize then what I know now ... which is that the arts is in many ways ALSO a helping profession. Every day I receive letters from people from around the globe who say that the art they see in the pages of Somerset Studio has changed their lives for good. |

Art helps people out of depression. Art comforts people through tragedies. Art inspires and unleashes the potential of our children. Indeed, as it was said so well in the film "Walk the Line," ART SAVES. |
I'd like to thank Jeffrey Brooks and Jennifer Bobbiwash and the rest of the team at Life Through Art Foundation for this WONDERFUL award and for this BEAUTIFUL event. About the Life Through Art Foundation

The Life Through Art Foundation is committed to funding educational opportunities in the arts for underprivileged students and artists who otherwise would not be able to finance such endeavors. The foundation supports students pursuing various forms of education in any area of the arts, including but not limited to, Theatre, Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Creative Writing, Film Studies and Culinary Arts. |
The arts encourage learning as a process of discovery that engages the whole child – body, mind, and heart. Research has shown that exposure and learning in the arts nurtures the development of cognitive, social, and personal competencies. In pursuing their goal to provide children and young artists with meaningful and beneficial educational experiences in the arts, the Life Through Art Foundation has developed programs that are meant to engage students on multiple levels. |
By working with existing nonprofits and educational institutions, the Life Through Art Foundation assists students in finding programs that best suit their individual, artistic, and educational needs. In 2009, they aspire to create at least 10,000 opportunities for underprivileged children to explore the arts through field trips, mentorships, the Innovation Program, and the Just Imagine Project.
