Here
are just a few highlights from our April/May 2006 issue!
Vintage Re-envisioned: Creating Clothing Keepsakes”
Lauren Mumford creates extraordinary remembrances with orphaned and gently used clothing and accessories. She shapes the garments then embellishes her delicate works with photographs, buttons, lace and found treasures.
“A Book of Treasures: a Hand-stitched Book of Memories”
Kay Williamson fashions a book from tiny pinewood compartments and black cardstock pages. Drawing inspiration from her move to a new home, Kay fills the compartments with tiny treasures including stamps, bobbins and pictures. The pages feature black and white photography and journaling in white ink.
“You’d Better Listen to Your Momma!: Funky Wearable Art with ‘Mom-isms’”
Rice Freeman-Zachery pays tribute to all mothers with her hip take on art-to-wear. Her jacket and tote proudly display the warnings we have all heard, from “Sit up straight” to “Do I look like your maid?”
“Memories for Mother: A Daughter’s Fabric Book Tribute”
Calligrapher Deborah Powell puts her pen to fabric in this beautifully layered memory book. Soft, warm colors, photo transfers, and fabric pockets adorn pages that are filled with hand written stories.
