Artist
Portfolio: Aki Sogabe
Her lovely still-life portraits and landscapes may appear to be pen-and-ink
drawings, but, in fact, each piece has been carefully drawn and cut
entirely by hand from paper. Master Papercutter Aki Sogabe uses illustration
board, an ordinary craft knife (with sharp #11 blades), Canson paper,
and airbrush paints. That's it. Ohadd to this recipe a creative
imagination and loads of photographic material she generates herself.

Paper
Primer: Images from the Orient
Paper featuring Chinese and Japanese calligraphy can also be found in
many varieties. Such motifs have always been in demand by Asian artists,
presumably because of the centuries-old deep appreciation for brush
and ink writing (shodo), which ranks among the highest of aesthetic
pursuits.

Cold
Laminate Collage
The artist always wanted to try her hand at collage, but didn't know
where to start. Then she discovered cold-laminate collage! Through this
technique, Shari Kalb found a way to tell all her stories while infusing
her spirit more fully into her artwork.
