Cover Artist Somerset Holidays & Celebrations Autumn 2008 |
|
For our 2008 issue of Somerset Holidays & Celebrations we feature a medley cover – which means we get to show off the creations of three fantastic artists! Choosing images for a cover often involves a lot of thought, taking in consideration color schemes and a good representation of different holidays — and of course eye-catching artwork! “Wicked,” the bewitching shadow box, was created by Jacki Jameson. “Noel,” the sweet dimensional Christmas decoration, was fashioned by Sophann Schleifer; and Heather Mellstrom created the precious “Love Notes” letter holder. Read on and get to know a little more about the artists behind the artwork.

Q: How does it feel to be a cover artist?
It is such an honor to be included in a Somerset Studio publication, and to be selected as a cover artist — a dream come true! When I saw the cover of the 2008 issue of Somerset Holidays & Celebrations and saw my piece on the cover I literally screamed and did a happy dance. This honor is a huge blessing! | |

Q: What is your favorite holiday?
Oh my, where do I start? I LOVE all holidays; however if I had to narrow it down and select only one, it would be Christmas. First and foremost it’s the most important holiday purely because of its meaning – the birth of Jesus Christ. Secondly, the feel that Christmas evokes is unlike any other – there is simply a warmth and peace that this holiday and season brings forth. I must admit, I'm one of “those people” who starts listening to Christmas music in October. In fact, this year our Christmas tree is coming up in September; I've started creating fall decorations to hang on the tree for the fall months and then after Thanksgiving the tree will of course be transformed with Christmas decorations |

Q: Where do you get most of your artistic inspiration?
I find artistic inspiration everywhere I look. I love browsing magazines to gain inspiration from colors, design and layouts. Of course Somerset Studio’s publications are amongst my favorite publications because they are chock-full of inspiration from so many different talented artist. |

Q: How long have you been creating art?
I would say that I've been involved in “art” ever since I could walk. From a very young age I was enrolled in dance and have danced for much of my life. Dance was one way for me to convey my artistic expression but it didn't take long for me to explore another means of art, paper crafting. I always enjoyed creating with paper, whether it was for a report in elementary school or making an invitation for a Christmas party. However, when I was 18 is when I really began to be enamored with all things paper arts; it started out with stamping, then moved on to scrapbooking, and today has evolved into a love of paper crafting with all types of mediums. |

Q: What projects are you currently working on?
Hehehe, what am I not working on is the question. Right now I'm trying to get a head start on some holiday projects: mini albums, holiday decor, and cards. The problem I have, is that my body can't keep up with my mind. I am constantly thinking of new projects to start yet I have so many that have already been started and need to be completed before I should move on to the next. I'm also hoping to finish up a project documenting mine and my husbands honeymoon adventure (that was only 2 years ago, you would think I would have that completed by now). |

Q: Besides your art, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to spend time with my husband, family and friends. My husband, David, and I love to spend time with our animals and often you will find us taking our fur babies, Duke and Dakota out on a stroll around the neighborhood or for a hike up in the mountains behind our home. I also love to travel; seeing the beauty of nature in other parts of the world and learning about other cultures is such a gift |

Q: Favorite movie?
Titanic – makes me cry every time I watch it. I also love pretty much anything and everything Disney – I did work at the Happiest Place on Earth for 11 years so Disney movies are near and dear to my heart ... I love anything with a Happy Ending! |
