d My inspiration is always taken from the photo of the people I am using in my art. Some pictures just cry out “tell my story.” I love the opportunity to give them a new pretend life and I often wonder how they would feel about how I have retold their story.

For our 2008 issue of Somerset Holidays & Celebrations we feature a medley cover – which means we get to show off the creations of three fantastic artists! Choosing images for a cover often involves a lot of thought, taking in consideration color schemes and a good representation of different holidays — and of course eye-catching artwork! “Wicked,” the bewitching shadow box, was created by Jacki Jameson. “Noel,” the sweet dimensional Christmas decoration, was fashioned by Sophann Schleifer; and Heather Mellstrom created the precious “Love Notes” letter holder. Read on and get to know a little more about the artists behind the artwork.

Q: How does it feel to be a cover artist?

Wow! I couldn't believe it when my friend called to tell me she had received her copy and my “Wicked” shadow box was part of the cover. What a huge thrill and honor! I giggled with delight and shed a few joy–filled tears.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?

There is always something really magical about Halloween. The chance to be anyone you wish for a day along with honoring those who have passed, and celebrating part of the circle of life all hold a great deal of fascination and charm.

Q: Where do you get most of your artistic inspiration?

My inspiration is always taken from the photo of the people I am using in my art. Some pictures just cry out “tell my story.” I love the opportunity to give them a new pretend life and I often wonder how they would feel about how I have retold their story.

Q: What advice would you give to an artist intimidated to submit artwork?

When you create, do it with confidence. If you feel good about the piece you are working on, it will be reflected in the end result and people will enjoy looking at it.

Q: What projects are you currently working on?

I am currently putting the finishing touches on projects for fall classes and as always, feeding my addiction for ATCs. I recently dusted off my sewing machine and hope to make some great fabric ornaments for the Christmas season and a crazy new purse to add to my collection.

Q: Besides your art, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I spend a lot of time gardening, as I love to nurture a plant and watch it grow. It teaches me patience in our fast–paced world. I also adore spending time with my daughters Sommer and Sky, especially playing in the sandbox. Many hours are spent working on my crumbly old Victorian house and dreaming about how I hope it will look in 5 years.

Q: Favorite food?

I LOVE chocolate! I often create art with a chocolate theme and if I'm ever in a creative rut, two chocolate chip cookies are always the cure. I can't help but feel artistic with all those chocolate-induced endorphins floating happily around in my head.

Q: Favorite quotation?

My favorite quote is “I've had the same goal ever since I was a little girl. I want to rule the world.” – Madonna. That just says it all!

Q: Favorite movie?

My favorite movie is the breathtakingly beautiful Mists of Avalon which is a novel written by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley. It is the story of Arthur Pendragon's Camelot told from the perspective of the women in his life. It is mystical, magical and truly inspirational.
