Morgana consists
of four pieces: hat, top, skirt, and bustle. The hat was reconstructed
from an old found hat. The artist removed the brim and attached a
large circle of hand-dyed orange tulle that has had nylon pipe encased
into the edge. The tulle was then gathered and arranged onto the crown
of the head. "Four elegant feathers were sewn onto the nylon
pipe to add a bit of class," says Glenys. The top is made from
"Mannmaid Felt," a technique that the artist invented. She
makes felt by using wool yarn, water-soluble medium and the sewing
machine. "It is a very lacy felt and extremely light," she
says. The felt was then attached onto a bodice of an old found black
frock. "I use a lot of recycled clothes in my work as a support
to the outer garment," adds Glenys. The skirt is made of many
layers of multi-colored tulle cut in triangular shapes and attached
onto a black band. The base of the skirt consists of layers of black
tulle. The bustle consists of pieces of beaded Mannmaid Felt, and
has a machine-embroidered band attached around the waist. "In
this image, it's a bit difficult to see the machine embroidery,"
admits the artist. Another large circle of hand-dyed orange tulle
with nylon tubing sewn into the edge was rouched and added to the
side of the bustle. Feathers and sequins were added to give a bit
more sparkle. "This piece, along with 10 other of my pieces,
have just returned from a wearable art' performance in Dubai,"
says Glenys.
