Cover Art: Halloween Hanna bears the sweet yet slightly melancholy expression that makes Colleen Moody's dolls a favorite among collectors. Read about the artist on page 36.

The Autumn 2007 issue of Art Doll Quarterly has rolled off the press and is available on newsstands now! Inside, you’ll find:
Soft sculpture fabric and clay doll maker Barby Anderson came across the art of needle felting at a quilt festival last year. The minute she sunk the barbed felting needle into the fluffy wool, she was hooked! Her first needle felted board dolls soon followed.

Fabric, air-drying clay and layer upon layer of paint go into Patricia Hayden’s creations, as part of a time-consuming and methodical process. The artist then painstakingly assembles elaborate and detailed undergarments, costumes and accessories that define each doll’s unique character.

For some 15 years, self-described “super hoarder” Paula Dion had saved the knock-off Cabbage Patch Kid dolls she gave her young sons. One day, she was visited by the “aha moment” that inspired her to transform the dolls into artwork that showcases Paula’s love of nature.

Inessa Morelock takes a fantastical approach in doll making, from her subject matter (Edgar Allan Poe) to her materials (the lining of a cast-off coat). She feels her method allows the work to progress as a collaboration between the figure and her, as the unique spirit of each one starts to express itself.

What’s a doll to do when she’s run up a flagpole, fallen into a bin of gourds and terrorized at a youth camp? It’s par for the course in the adventurous life of Cordelia, a delightful fabric doll making her way cross-country with Mary Wiggins documenting her progress and missteps!

Sandra Evertson salutes the season with Griffith’s Paper Witch, a charming paper doll in the shape of a witch’s hat. All the ephemera is provided for making your own!

Readers responded to the editor’s Call for Creativity by creating gorgeous gourd dolls that reflect nearly every medium and style imaginable.
