10 Quilled Shapes
by Ann Martin Tight coil: Roll paper on tool. Glue end in place without allowing the paper to relax. Slide coil off tool. Teardrop: Make a loose coil by rolling the paper and allowing it to relax. Slide the coil off the tool and glue end. Pinch the join spot to create a point. Shaped teardrop: With fingertips, grasp teardrop and curve point downward. Marquise: Make a loose coil. Pinch opposite sides to create two points. Take care to keep the coil center positioned in the middle of the marquise. Shaped marquise (leaf): Using thumbs and index fingers, grasp ends of marquise. Curve one end down and one end up. V scroll: Fold strip in half. Roll each end outward to make an evenly sized pair of loose coils. Asymmetrical heart scroll: Make fold in strip at less than halfway point. Roll each end inward toward fold. Flag Scroll: Fold strip in half. Roll the two loose ends together toward the fold. The innermost side will form a bulge (flag). Grape roll: Make a tight coil; using a rounded object such as a glass head pin, gently push on underside of coil to create a dome. Apply a thin coating of glue inside dome to hold shape. Fringed flower: Make many fine and evenly spaced vertical cuts along the length of strip. Try not to cut through the entire width of the strip, but if this happens all is not lost - simply glue the two pieces together and continue fringing. Roll the strip with quilling tool, glue end, and fluff fringe outward from center. |
